Comanche has a long tradition of community gatherings and our big Pow Wow event is no exception. Now in its 37th year, our Native American-themed Pow Wow is a family-friendly celebration of our rich history, incredible regional vendors and spirit of the whole Comanche community. The event is $3 and open to the public.

The celebrations last from Saturday, September 22 until Sunday, September 23, 2018. Here is the fun that we have in store for you and the kiddos.

  • A petting zoo (with a kangaroo!!!) and Mr. T the Magician!
  • Texas’ largest classic car show!
  • Cowboy and Native American performers paying homage to our beginnings and celebrating our roots!
  • Plenty of down-home, Texas fair food from turkey legs and corny dogs to barbecue!
  • Live music and the Shawnee Indian Dancers!

BBQ Cook-off

BBQ in Texas is an art form. A very delicious, edible masterpiece on a paper plate and plastic tray. Our barbecue cook-off, held in Comanche City Park, is always one of our favorite events – you really just can’t have a bad time when copious amounts of barbecue is at your fingers. (Saturday, September 22, 2018, 5 pm)

Kid-Friendly Entertainment

We’re all about family here in Comanche so, naturally, we have loads of kid-friendly Pow-wow fun! Our petting zoo is always a fan favorite and this year you can introduce the kids to a kangaroo! Mr. T the Magician will be strolling through pow-wow with magic tricks from 11 am before bringing his back of tricks to the Texas Bank Pavillion for a magic show at 3 pm. The kiddos will also love the unique performance by Sahawe Indian Dancers at 12:15 pm.

Photography Contest & Art Exhibit

The Comanche County Art Association is excited to host our renowned Art Exhibit & Sale. The exhibit is unique as submissions span all ages and skill levels. (Saturday, September 22, 10 am – 6 pm; Sunday, September 23, 10 am – 4 pm; Comanche Community Center)

Boot-Scootin’

Ready for some boot-scootin’? We have a day of fine Texas tunes all lined up for you. Richard Owen kicks things off at 11 am. He’s followed by Coltin Ayers, who brings his Americana music to the stage at 1 pm. Paul Carbajal Band and Dino top off the day at 4:30 pm. (Texas Bank Pavilion)

Car, Tractor & Engine Show

The car show is another beloved component of Pow-Wow. Held on Saturday, September 23, at the Comanche City Park, Texas’ largest classic car show is sure to stun the classic car lover. In addition to drool-worthy classic cars (and motorcycles), expect car games, goodie bags and door prizes, and a DJ spinning jams to the rev of the motors.

We also hold a Tractor & Engine Show. Now in its 26th year, the ex-tract-aganza is always a fantastic display of Comanche ranching and farming roots. Antique lovers will delight in the antique tractor parade at 1 pm. (Saturday, September 22, 10 am – 6 pm)

Please note that the Comanche Pow Wow is NOT a traditional Native American Pow-Wow.
